AMC Networks Publishing launched with graphic novels, Stephen King, Kirk Hammett and more

Since I’ve been writing The Beat, I’ve heard rumors of TV stations launching their own comic book lines to cheaply (sprry) generate IP in-house. (Remember when Netflix was going to launch a line of comics because they signed Millarworld?) It never really happened that way, but Publication of AMC networks might just be the closest thing yet – a network publishing spinoff that will publish specialty books, comics, original graphic novels and more.

The line is led by a publishing veteran and head of AMC Networks Publishing Mike Zagarwho worked at Marvel, DC, Disney and Aftershock before moving to AMC, so he certainly knows the territory.

Upcoming projects include multiple comics, a graphic novel, and a coffee table book, partnering with talents like Kirk Hammett, Brendan Fletcher, Greg Nicotero, Stephen King and much more.

AMC’s first publishing venture was a coffee table book, The art of AMC’s The Walking Dead universe, published in partnership with Image Comics and Skybound. The new release from AMC Publishing will have various printing partners, including Titan Books and Every Cloud.

“We’re thrilled to launch this new initiative with talented creators, writers, artists and storytellers to further engage our passionate fans with the stories and characters they love, as well as open doors to discover worlds new and fascinating,” Zagari said in a statement. “Deeper dives on AMCs The Walking Dead Universe, by Shudder horror show and Acorn TVs Miss Fisherto an all-new collection of fantastical and comedic tales from Kirk Hammett, Marcel Feldmar, Brenden Fletcher and many more, we look forward to entertaining and delighting our audiences and fans in new and innovative ways.

The composition :

  • Shudder’s Creepshow: From Script to Scream (working title), based on Nicotero’s bestselling anthology series, Stan Spry (The Cartel), Russell Binder (Striker Entertainment), and in partnership with Titan Books. The Coffee Table Book is written by Dennis Prince, designed by John J. Hill and co-produced by Julia Hobgood, and featuring behind the scenes of the famous horror show series with deep dives into its fascinating origins, captivating development, provocative production, sinister special effects and much more.

“I grew up exhausting my fingertips going through books about making my favorite movies,” Nicotero said. “I was eager to learn behind-the-scenes secrets, so I’m thrilled to be able to present a glimpse into the making of this epic show!”

  • Miss Fisher’s First Mysteries (working title) an original graphic novel based on the hit television series Acorn Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (adapted from Australian author Kerry Greenwood’s best-selling novels) and written by award-winning authors and New York Times Best-selling author Cecil Castellucci (Shadow The Changing Girl, Star Wars: Moving Target) and in partnership with Every Cloud Productions. In the graphic novel, the year is 1917, and there’s no way the ivy-covered walls of a posh English-finishing school can hold the rebellious spirit of the Honorable Miss Fisher. Outraged when her childhood friend is framed for murder, young Phryne plans a daring escape and braves the high seas as a stowaway – bound for danger and romance in dark alleys, dodgy theaters and glamorous mansions. of Melbourne in wartime.
  • Lono Nights (working title) is a comic book by Metallica lead guitarist and horror lover Kirk Hammett and his writing partner/co-creator Marcel Feldmar, tells the story of a troubled female detective in 1989 Hawaii who is hired to find the tomb of King Kamehameha before it is discovered by an unscrupulous mainland occultist. Blending mystery and supernatural adventure, the story is a self-aware journey through standard detective clichés and cliches that are sharpened and revitalized with new interpretations of Hawaiian island myths and folklore.
  • Oubliette (working title) a comic strip by Brendan Flecher, takes place in a small town where people live by a simple rule:If you were born from the earth around the lake, then around the lake you will remain until you return to the earth”. The story explores the struggle of a woman who escaped the impossible gravity of her birthplace only to be brought home to bury her father. She finds herself trapped once again in a cycle of pain and regret as she digs into the mystery of the sinkhole that drained the lake and claimed her father’s life. There’s something dark and wicked out there, in that hole in the lake. Something that has been waiting a very long time to come to the surface…
