Barnes & Noble will open a new bookstore in Stonebridge in downtown Potomac on Monday, March 7.

Located near Wegmans, the new Barnes & Noble is the first to open in Woodbridge and offers a cafe, large reading rooms, stationery, puzzles, board games and toys.

The new store will open at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and dedication by local author TJ Klune, author of Beneath the Whisperer Door – Barnes & Noble’s Speculative Fiction Book of 2021 – and historical fiction author Margaret Rodenberg, author of Find Napoleon.

“We are thrilled to open our first store here in Woodbridge. It is particularly fitting that one of our first new stores of 2022 is in a brand new market for Barnes & Noble,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “As we evaluate where to open new stores, Woodbridge has really stood out, and we are excited to begin this new chapter of book selling. Store Manager Cristina Knighton and her team have created an outstanding store that promises to become a new community hub.

Employees of the new store selected books and merchandise designed to meet the needs of area residents. The store will feature a large children’s section, multiple story titles, and mystery and thriller books.

Young adult titles and manga will also have a large footprint in the store.

Barnes & Noble allows employees to organize their bookstores in the way that will best appeal to their customers. According to the company, this is a new approach to bookshopping at Barnes & Noble, bringing the respect for local craftsmanship that is at the heart of the best bookshops, a philosophy that reflects the experience of CEO James Daunt, longtime independent bookseller before taking over the management of Barnes & Noble.

“I’m so excited to be opening a Barnes & Noble here in Woodbridge. I’m from the area and understand how badly we needed a bookstore here. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to manage this location and to select books that will appeal to our community,” said Cristina Knighton, Store Manager. “We’ve all worked hard to get this store ready for customers, and we look forward to welcoming them next week.”

In addition to the grand opening with TJ Klune and Margaret Rodenberg, the store is planning additional book signings and planning larger events such as story hours and book readings later this year, according to a press release.
