Bookstat: Showdown kills competition

Karin Slaughter False witness (HarperCollins) has set its sights on the number one Bookstat e-book, topping the list for the week ending Jan. 8. It was the perpetrator’s first-ever number one on the digital chart, although both The silent woman and the good girl have accumulated several weeks in the chart.

Slaughter HarperCollins teammate Adele Parks also made her top 10 debut, with You two (HQ) landed second place for the same week its paperback debuted on the Mass Market Fiction charts at number six.

Ali Hazelwood’s TikTok hit The love hypothesis (Sphere) debuted at number three in the Bookstat chart after a price drop to 99p.

While it’s rare for a non-fiction title to reach the top 10 e-books, the title published by James Clear in 2018 Atomic Habits (Cornerstone) made his debut, placing eighth. Atomic Habits has been a reliable presence on the January e-book, audio, and print charts for the past few years, and has sold just under 150,000 copies in paperback.

Clarification: Hachette stated that The love hypothesis sold 5,653 copies; sorrow and happiness 6,183; and sheltering rain 6,174.
