The right-wing recall crisis continues with George Gascón

Dist. from Los Angeles County. Atty. George Gascón, foreground, with LAPD leader Michel Moore on June 30. (Los Angeles Times)

For the publisher: The Conservatives’ knee-jerk reaction to callbacks against duly elected progressive officials not only shows that they are sore losers, but it also highlights the absence of any viable strategy to improve conditions. (“Efforts to recall Los Angeles County DA George Gascón fail, but another attempt is coming“, September 16)

Many of us have discussed the recall of Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva after leading a bait and trade campaign, and LA City Councilor John Lee when he was involved in a federal corruption probe shortly after winning a very slim election victory over the Democrat. Loraine Lundquist.

Villanueva and Lee both deserve voter reconsideration, but we have decided that while both could easily be removed from office, it would be an incredibly expensive process for taxpayers.

Voters flatly rejected Gov. Gavin Newsom’s attempt to recall, and they would do the same for LA County Dist. Atty. George Gascón – because he’s doing exactly what he promised in the campaign he won fairly.
