The Coos History Museum, Southwestern Oregon Community College, and Coos Bay Public Library wish to remind all writers and readers on the South Oregon Coast that this year’s 6th Annual Writers Day will be held on October 16, from 13 a.m. to 4 p.m. 30 p.m. A writing workshop, How to Make Comics, will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and will be hosted by David F Walker, author of The Black Panther Party: A Graphic Novel History. Registrations will open at 9 a.m. on September 25 and are limited to 30 participants.
From 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. there will be guest author readings and a question-and-answer session with Lee van der Voo, author of As the World Burns: The New Generation of Activists and the Landmark Legal Fight Against Climate Change; Michelle Ruiz Keil, author of Summer in the City of Roses; and Thomas Mitchell, author of Where We Arrive. The writing competition awards ceremony will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Readings from guest authors and the awards ceremony will be streamed live via Zoom and Facebook for those who wish to participate in comfort of their home.
Finally, the deadline for submitting the writing contest has been extended until September 30, at 5 p.m., so consider submitting your short stories and poetry to our youth or adult categories for the chance to win money. and other fun prizes.
